🐇 Your rabbit, healthy and happy, starts with what's on its plate
At G.Valkyria, we believe that love is also served as food. And when it comes to rabbits, their diet is key to ensuring they live longer, have the energy to hop around, and keep those eyes shining every day.
But not everything that looks "green" is good for them. That's why we're here to tell you what rabbits should eat and what's best to leave off the menu, based on the most reliable information from veterinarians and small mammal experts.
🌾 1. Hay: their number one food
Grass hay (Timothy, orchard, brome) should make up 80% of their diet, always available and fresh.
It not only provides fiber for perfect digestion but also keeps their teeth healthy and prevents serious health problems.
💡 G.Valkyria Tip: Alfalfa hay is very nutritious, but only for kits, pregnant or recovering does, not for healthy adults.
🥬 2. Fresh vegetables: color and nutrition in their daily life
Every day, add 1–2 cups of safe vegetables per 2 kg of body weight. Variety is important: spinach, arugula, carrot tops, cilantro, parsley, Swiss chard, broccoli (leaves), or mint are excellent choices.
Introduce new vegetables gradually and observe how their tummy responds.
🍏 3. High-fiber pellets: a measured extra
Only as a supplement: ¼–½ cup daily for every 2–2.5 kg of body weight. Choose pellets based on Timothy hay, without added seeds or sugars.
At G.Valkyria, we only select brands that meet veterinary quality standards.
🍓 4. Fruits and treats: only occasionally
Apple (without seeds), banana, strawberry, or carrot are treats you can give in moderation. Too much sugar can cause digestive problems and obesity.
💧 5. Clean water, always
Your rabbit must have access to fresh water at all times, either in a heavy bowl or a sipper bottle. Change it daily.
🚫 Foods your rabbit should NEVER eat
- Bread, crackers, cereals
- Seeds, nuts
- Chocolate, sweets
- Iceberg lettuce
- Toxic plants (lilies, tulips, etc.)
💚 A happy rabbit is one that has unlimited hay, a variety of fresh vegetables, a little bit of quality pellets, clean water, and, of course, lots of love.
